The Potential for Life

Hello everybody! Today I have news of a moon of Saturn. Scientists say that under its ice shell Encladus has an ocean the size of Lake Superior. In the eyes of many scientists this little moon now has more potential for life elsewhere in that Solar System, even more than Mars. This is mostly due to the fact that this small moon of Saturn is in a celestial “tug-of-war” between Saturn and a neighboring moon named Dione. This battle of gravitational pull creates gigantic amounts of friction and heat. This heat makes the water warm. With the correct molecules this could be the starting place of new life in the Solar System. From gravitational calculations around the South Pole during flybys scientists can assume within reason that there is an ocean about 20 miles beneath the surface. This ocean would most likely reach from the South Pole to about halfway to the equator, and could be 6 miles deep. There is no way to know exactly how big this ocean is, it could stretch all the way to the North Pole for all we know.

This fascinates me. The fact that we can reasonable agree that there is a high chance for primitive life on a moon of another planet in our own Solar System. The prospect of life on another mass of rock orbiting the same star as we are amazes me. What do you think? Do you think that there could be life on this moon? Or could it be a one way trip to human colonization of other celestial beings.

Thank you for reading!!
